There is no other best time to get into YouTube or other video-sharing websites than now. Based on the November 2006 report of MarketingExperiments.com, business owners can increase their click-through rates to a whopping 750 percent. Lauren Luke did not enroll in any professional make-up school, but through her videos, she landed a book deal and produced a video game for Nintendo.
However, creating a video is not that easy. The last thing you want to do is mess it up and have everyone share it all for the wrong reasons. To save yourself from unnecessary costs and embarrassment and to fuel business interest, you may want to follow these ideas:
1. Limit the duration.
YouTube only gives you 9 minutes to come up with something radical and creative. To make yours more effective, limit your video time from 3 to 5 minutes. This is how long most people can last watching a video.
If you cannot avoid extending the video, then at least cut it into a mini-series. This will reduce the watching time and gives your audience something to look forward.
2. Watch plenty of videos.
It is a given fact that if you want to capture somebody else’s attention, you have to be creative. What most video advertisers tend to forget is they also have to be very original. You will never know what originality is unless you are going to watch several other videos and see how your competitors do it.
3. Develop a powerful message.
Even the most graphically appealing video will lose its influence if it does not have a message with it. As an advertiser, you need to be clear about your message and how you communicate it to others. Would you like them to patronize you over your competitors? Would you like them to buy your products and services? Or perhaps you simply want them to click on your website link and get to know more about your business?
It is also essential that you don’t end up confusing your audience. As much as possible, have at least one powerful and clear message in your video.
4. Create a teaser.
Do what the movies do. They send teasers first. It is very short, not lasting more than a minute. The point here is to get attention and obtain feedback. If they like it, then there is no reason they are not going to anticipate the rest of your video.
5. Extend your reach.
YouTube is the biggest video-sharing website and one of the top five sites in the world, but others are fast catching up. Many online surfers are now watching from other video-based websites. You have to reach out to them since they can still be potential customers or business partners. Aside from YouTube, the most visited video hosting websites include Google Video, Metacafe, Hulu, and Vimeo.
