social-media-marketingIn order to grow your fan or follower base on Twitter and Facebook, along with your list of mailing subscribers, your business or organization must provide a service of interest to your target demographic. Below are some of the following ideas that can help grow your social media and online presence.

  1. Giveaways: Following a company on Facebook and Twitter or sharing a standard message that tags the company’s social media profile in order to be entered to win prizes has worked extremely well for some companies. For example, website builder MoonFruit held a hugely popular social media contest in order to give away Apple products. Mashable.com called it ‘Twitter Promotion Done Right‘ and the contest resulted in #moonfruit becoming a trending topic on Twitter with up to 400 tweets per minute.
  2. Ask for Feedback: One of the best parts of social media for both the user and businesses is the opportunity to create public conversations. Publicly asking users for their thoughts on new and existing products has been highly successful for companies like Mountain Dew, which launched a ‘DEWmacracy‘ campaign that allowed Mountain Dew customers to vote for new Mountain Dew flavors. This helped establish Mountain Dew’s presence on Facebook and Twitter and helped spread the campaign via word-of-mouth buzz marketing by their customers.
  3. Free Samples: Retailers like Einstein Brothers Bagels and IHOP have given away free products to users who sign up for their newsletter or ‘like’ them on Facebook. Once a user completes the desired action, they are sent a coupon through email or sent to a landing page with the coupon. Customers love free products and this may be an affordable way to get qualified leads for restaurants and other retail businesses.
  4. Exclusive Coupons: Many companies tweet or post coupons that are exclusive to their social media accounts. This not only gives users a reason to follow a company, but it also allows for easy goal-tracking through the coupon code. Because the code is exclusive to either Twitter, Facebook, or social media as a whole, companies can see approximately how many users see the exclusive coupons and take action to make a purchase.
